Find the document that actually covers the tools
Quotezone says standard van policies do not usually cover tools, equipment or goods inside the vehicle and suggests checking separate or additional protection. This is a comparison-service explanation. Whether your tools are included can only be established from the arrangement and documents that apply to you.
Identify whose property is insured: your own tools, employees’ tools, hired items or equipment borrowed from another business. Check whether the limit is per item, per event or another basis, and whether a schedule or evidence of ownership is needed.

Ask about the real overnight routine
A van may be parked on a street, at home, at a site or in a locked compound. Ask about unattended and overnight definitions, locks, evidence of forced entry and any requirement to remove tools. These are questions to investigate, not conditions we claim appear in every policy.
Direct Line’s security discussion includes emptying a van in the evening when possible. Security practice and an insurance promise are different matters: a sticker, lock or empty-looking vehicle does not prove that a claim will be accepted.

Keep the risk discussion separate from a quote
If the tools are essential to tomorrow’s job, also ask how a covered loss would be handled, what excess applies and what records would be requested. Record the provider’s answer in your own documents.
If tools have already been stolen, use the existing policy’s reporting route and appropriate official reporting channels. A new comparison is not a remedy for a loss that has already happened.
