Start with the vehicle and its relationship to the business

Quotezone lists vehicle identity and description, value, body type, seats and modifications among the information for a van comparison. Direct Line also asks about the purchase and overnight location. These are examples of current provider questions, not a universal form.

Check who owns the van, who is its registered keeper and who will hold the policy. A leased van or a company-owned vehicle can need an explanation of those relationships. Gather the evidence privately; do not send registration documents to this checklist.

Describe the work rather than choosing an attractive label

Write down personal journeys, travel to a regular workplace, visits to sites or customers, tools carried and any delivery work. The provider needs the real situation, including occasional tasks. An occupation alone does not describe every journey.

For each driver, prepare the licence and driving-history information the service asks for. Check the actual main driver. Have NCD evidence to hand, and ask if its use or validity is uncertain. Do not invent a number because you cannot find the document.

A checked box is only your own preparation status

The checklist cannot verify a record or say whether a provider accepts it. Read the current question, including its definitions and time period, before answering. A different comparison form may request additional facts.

If you are already insured and something has changed, explain the change to the current insurer. A fresh comparison does not amend an existing policy.

Working list

  • Check the vehicle description, ownership, keeper and modifications.
  • Prepare every actual driver’s records and the main-driver relationship.
  • Estimate total annual mileage from real personal and work journeys.
  • Check parking, security, dates and NCD evidence.
  • List unclear questions to ask the service before submitting its form.

What this does not establish

A submitted comparison form, a completed worksheet and an existing insurance certificate are different things. This list confirms none of them and does not determine whether you are covered to drive.
