Explain what is changing and when

Direct Line’s van guidance tells policyholders to report changes in circumstances and discusses reviewing mileage and use when a job changes. Those are examples of one insurer’s change process. Check the wording and contact route for your current contract.

Keep present facts separate from plans: who drives now, what work happens now, and what will be different. If the change has already started, explain that accurately rather than presenting it as a future proposal.

Include changes that cross several subjects

A paid-delivery side job can change journey patterns, load, mileage and timing together. Quotezone discusses occasional or part-time courier activity separately from ordinary van use. Explain all related facts rather than asking only whether the occupation name needs updating.

A new driver, overnight parking place, signwriting, rack or trailer can produce other questions. Prepare a short list for the insurer, with relevant documents available privately. No detailed incident or personal information belongs in our tool.

Ask for the outcome of the change process

Ask what the provider needs you to do, when any agreed change takes effect and which document will show the resulting arrangement. Keep that confirmation with your own records. We cannot promise approval or say what it will cost.

If you also choose to compare alternatives, that comparison is a separate action. It does not notify the current insurer, cancel the existing policy or secure cover for the new use.

Working list

  • List present facts and proposed changes separately.
  • State the real date or whether the change has already begun.
  • Include driver, use, load, mileage, parking and vehicle changes.
  • Ask the current insurer what action and evidence it needs.
  • Keep confirmation of any agreed effective arrangement.

What this does not establish

The tool cannot assess the effect of an undisclosed change, a past journey or a claim. For an existing dispute or loss, use the appropriate provider route rather than treating a fresh quote as a solution.
